This Family Tree and Photo Album is dedicated to my parents, Ron and Harriet Spieth.

It's an attempt to put labels on many of those old photos in the basement, organize them into proper timelines, and fill in some of the gaps between them.

2011 Holiday Update: I began this project four years ago, and I'm in total amazement at how far it has come, and how many wonderful people have helped it along. While something like this is never really complete, I finally feel that most of the holes have been filled in and I am so grateful to everyone!

There are several parts of the project which snuck up on me and took on lives of their own, chief of which are the essays Who Was John Andrew Rudick? and The Fragile Family in Escanaba. And thanks to numerous cousins, the Fragale Branch, the Leisner Branch and the Rudick Branch just grew and grew.

There are other branches to explore further, like all of those Spieths, and Wises, dating back hundreds of years, or the Cessna Branch, something I've only touched upon.

And of course, there's the research which started it all, Pat Baribeau's work on the Williams and Laviolette Branches.

Here's looking forward to 2012, and the release of the 1040 US Census documents. This never ends, does it?

Thanks to......

Mom and Dad for enduring hours of questions, and for preserving most of these photos all of these years.

Pat Baribeau for her genealogical research. Without her photos, and this document, my gallery of the Roger Williams/Leah Laviolette family would have a lot of holes in it. A visual representation of her work is here.

Irene Ernestina Fragale-Stratton for remembering people in those photos which left the rest of us scratching our heads, and for providing many of the family facts which made "The Fragale Family in Escanaba" possible.

Pat Stratton-Polazzo, Mike and Emma Fragale's granddaughter, for those Stratton photos, and the Fragale/Leisner information.

Melania "Lonie" Ruggieri-Eapen, granddaughter of Mike Fragale's sister, Mary, for details and more details, and for her account of her grandfather Serafino's life, and more.

Helen "Dolly" Fragale-Citino, daughter of Angelo Fragale, and niece of my great grandfather Mike Fragale, for filling in more details of life in Kennett Square, and helping with the Upper Peninsula connections.

Helen Citino, daughter of Josephine Fragale-Citino, for her warm recollections of life on the farm.

Martha (Marti) Mascaro, whose years of research into her Italian heritage happily intersects my Fragale project, for the data on Maria Concetta Mascaro-Fragale, and the Fragales of Accaria.

Tracy Helmsmeier-Pinnix and Marilee Bowen-Fairbanks for their info on the Bowen-Spieth branch of the family, and especially to Tracy for all of the photos!

John Dunkin, grandson of Floyd Rudick, for first interesting me in the life of John Andrew Rudick, and for his many, many facts, stories and of course, photos. Also thanks to Robin Uresti, Teresa Crater (Prater) and Tanna Rudick for further info and photos.

Myrna McVicker, another Cessna descendant, for all of the family tree documents.

Noreen Gingrass-Spieth and Amy Spieth-Kuzynowski for the information and photos relating to my uncle Phil's family, and especially for the photos which finally made the Cecil Rudick and Mary Cessna family pages possible.

Ann Jacubiak (Another Herman Leisner great grandchild) for clearing up Herman's family tree, and for the photos of Herman and Gusty.

Terri Dimock, Anastasia's great granddaughter, for the great information on Paul DuBois and his family, and for the photos.

Samantha Mejia, Anna H. William's great granddaughter, for her information on that branch of the family.

Barb Stratton for her info about Edward Mitchell Stratton and his family, and for her wonderful photo from Irene Stratton's 100th birthday party.

Phillip Sheets, whose wife is another descendant of Henry and Anna Wise, for the photos.

John Troeger, fourth(?) cousin, who helped me cement the links between my Great Grandfather Spieth and the Spieths of Germany. His website is here.

Gary Gezann, sixth cousin, and Angela Spieth, seventh cousin, for showing me another Ohio line of Spieths, the descendants of Christian Andreas Spieth's brother.

The Delta County Genealogical Society website, where a great number of Escanaba area facts can be found.

Ancestry.com, a great resource. The census documents alone make it worth joining.

My Wish List......

I need............

More photographs!

It's amazing that I now have photos of all eight of my great-grandparents, and nine out of sixteen of my great-great-grandparents. Anyone who could come up with pictures of even one of those other seven would be my hero. How about photos of Walter and Sudie Cessna, or of William and Kathryn Spieth? Other missing shots include Pearl Spieth-Osterhout and Vera Mae Rudick.

I'm also still hoping for a nice pair of photos of my Spieth grandparents, Hank and Dot, or maybe a wedding portrait, if that exists. Hey, everyone, keep 'em coming!
